As you integrate SiteOwl across your organization, this guide will take you through the process of bringing your Installation Technicians onboard. You’ll begin by selecting and preparing an initial Project, then training your Technicians to use SiteOwl Mobile for the Installation stage of the Project.

Prepare an Installation Project

Step Details
1 Select an initial Project Select the first Project that Technicians will work on using SiteOwl. This should be a Project for a production Account.
2 Verify the Project information

Verify that the Project has all the information required to enable Technicians to be successful with minimal office contact. This can include:

  • Part Numbers
  • Photos that make it clear where Devices should be installed or removed, and other visual information
  • Installation instructions
  • Coverage areas and Connections
  • Tasks to be performed

If the Project is still in the Design stage, move it to the Installation stage.

Prepare Technicians to use SiteOwl Mobile

Step Details
1 Create User accounts for Technicians Be sure to create these users in your Headquarters, not in an Account, unless they are Subcontractors.
2 Grant Technicians access to the Training Account and Training Project

Invite Technicians to the Training Account with either the Lead Technician or Technician Role:

  • Lead Technicians can use the Web and DesignOwl app to modify the Plan
  • Technicians are limited to updating existing Devices and Tasks

After they’ve been added to the Account, grant them access to a Training Installation Project that has a number of un-installed Primary and Secondary Devices/Tasks

  • These Device groups should be similar to what they’ll see in the production Project you’ve selected
3 Approximately 1 week prior to the start of the Installation phase, begin Technician Training

Have Technicians complete the SiteOwl Mobile training course and practice what they’ve learned in the Training Account / Project

  • Provide Technicians with the course link.
  • Ensure Technicians have downloaded the SiteOwl Mobile app to their mobile phones
  • Schedule 1-2 hours for Technicians to complete the course and practice in the Training Account / Project

Access the mobile course at this link:

4 Educate Technicians on your organization’s best practices for using SiteOwl Mobile Ensure Technicians understand and follow your best practices, such as:
  • What fields should be completed for the certain Device Types (e.g. Cameras, Card Readers)
  • What photos should be included when installation is complete
  • When the Device Installation Status and Operational Status should be updated
  • How and when to use Flags to communicate issues to the Project Manager
5 Grant Technicians access to the production Account and Project Soon after training is completed, start the Installation Project for the production Account.
6 Installation Project Kickoff  Schedule a working session with Technicians before they start work in order to:
  • Verify that they have SiteOwl Mobile installed and are able to log in
  • Verify that they have access to the Account and Project
  • Review installation best practices
  • Address questions about the correct use of SiteOwl Mobile, including how to work offline
  • Review the Project they will be working on, with a focus on the types of Device groups they’ll find on the Plan
