Exercise: Editing Projects

In this Exercise, you'll practice what you learned in the Editing Projects in SiteOwl course.

If you haven't completed the course, first launch it here, Editing Projects in SiteOwl, then proceed with the Exercise.

Task 1: Add a Device Group (a Primary Device with a Secondary Device) to a Project

In SiteOwl, you have already created a new Design Project for an Account and you're now ready to begin adding Devices.

Steps: 
  1. Locate the Design Project to edit. 
    1. From the Headquarters drop-down, select the Training or Sandbox Account, then go to the Design Projects menu option.
    2. From the list of Design Projects, select a Plan to view.  Select the Project and a Plan you created while completing the Managing Projects Exercise.
  2. While viewing the Plan, select the option to Edit Plan.
  3. From the Device List, select a Fixed Camera Device and position it on the Plan.
    1. Edit the details of the new Device by adding useful information such as Part Number and Manufacturer. 
    2. Enable the Coverage Area option and set the Direction, Angle and Range.
  4. Select a cable from the Device list and drop it onto the camera to form a Device Group. 
    1. Edit the details of the cable to include a Part Number.  
  5. Save your changes. 
Check Your Work:
After completing the steps, confirm that the Device Group is shown on the Plan. The Secondary Badge should display a count of 1.

Task 2: Duplicate the Camera Device Group and position it in 2 other locations on the Plan

In this Project Plan, there will be 3 instances of the same Device Group in various locations. Rather than creating 2 more Device Groups with the same information, you will save time and reduce inaccuracies by duplicating the one you've completed.

Steps:
  1. Edit the Plan.
  2. Select the camera Device Group and right-click to view additional options.
  3. Select the Duplicate option.
  4. Position the new Device Group on the Plan and adjust its Coverage Area as needed.
  5. Repeat these steps to add a 3rd Camera Device Group on the Plan.
  6. Save your changes. 
Check Your Work:
After completing the steps, confirm that the duplicated Device Groups display on the Plan.

Task 3: Use the Filter options to display only the Device Name on each Pin

Use the Filter options to change your viewing preferences and adjust the information shown on the Plan.

Steps:
  1. While viewing the Project Plan, select the Filter option.  
  2. Familiarize yourself with the Filter options available to modify the way Pins are shown on the Plan.
  3. Hide the Part Numbers and the Abbreviated Names.
  4. Save your changes. 
Check Your Work:
After completing the steps, confirm that your Device Pins display only the Device Name and the Part Numbers and Abbreviated Names are not shown.

Task 4: Use the Information option to view Device counts

Confirm that your Design Project is complete and includes all the items needed by viewing a count of all Devices organized by Device Type.
Steps:
  1. While viewing the Project Plan, select the Info option.  
  2. Familiarize yourself with the Counts listed for each System Type on the Plan. Counts are broken out by Part Number, showing the total number of each on the Plan. Notice that the counts are clickable, allowing you to navigate easily to more detailed information.
  3. Advanced: Click one of the hyperlinked counts (such as Video Surveillance) to navigate to the Project Devices menu and view a list of selected Devices.
Check Your Work:
After completing the steps, confirm that you've navigated to the Project Devices menu and are viewing a list of the Devices you selected.

Task 5: Move the Design Project to the Installation stage

The Design Project is complete and approved by the Account. You're ready to move it to the next stage in the lifecycle so that the Installation phase can begin.

Steps: 
  1. From the Project Card, click the Information link. 
  2. Select the Project Actions button and select Move to Installation.
  3. Navigate to the Installation Projects List to confirm the move. 
Check Your Work:
After completing the steps, confirm that the Project is no longer listed in your Design Projects List and is now shown in the Installation Projects List.
